The suitcase has long occupied an awkward place within interiors — despite its design pedigree – usually hidden away in cupboards or under beds. A new collaboration between Rimowa, the German luggage manufacturer and Swiss furniture maker, Lehni, attempts to change that entirely.
Unveiled during Milan Design Week 2026, the limited-edition collaboration transforms Rimowa’s signature aluminium cabin suitcases into part of the architecture of the home itself through a series of minimal storage pieces crafted from anodised aluminium.
Rather than approaching luggage storage as an afterthought, the project treats the suitcase almost as a collectible design object — one worthy of display. The collection includes two pieces: the Rimowa Lehni Bench, an open shelving unit designed to hold two cabin-sized suitcases side by side, and the Rimowa Lehni Drawer, a more compact vertical storage solution with concealed compartments for smaller travel essentials.

What makes the team-up particularly interesting within the context of contemporary interiors is its restraint. There are no excessive embellishments or overt luxury signifiers. Instead, the collection leans fully into the precision both brands are known for: industrial aluminium surfaces, modular forms and an almost architectural sense of proportion. Every detail — down to the scratch-resistant felt mats designed to protect the cases — reinforces the idea of utility elevated through craftsmanship.
Available in black or silver anodised aluminium, the pieces retain the industrial finish associated with Rimowa’s iconic grooved suitcases while leaning into Lehni’s more restrained Swiss modernist language. Handmade at Lehni’s Zurich factory, the designs combine brushed metal surfaces with felt-lined interiors developed specifically to protect the aluminium cases from scratches and wear. Even when empty, the pieces maintain an understated presence.
