As the Cannes Film Festival transforms the French Riviera into the epicentre of cinema, fashion and celebrity culture, the city’s most luxurious hotels become some of the most sought-after addresses in the world.
Whether you’re a cinéphile or not, there’s something about the Cannes Film Festival that sets off a frisson of excitement throughout the city. Whilst many will be prowling the Croisette hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite film star or standing resolutely outside the Palais des Festivals by the red carpet, we’re looking at the three most exceptional suites on the Cannes Croisette.
Hôtel Martinez – The Penthouse Apartments

Famed for its Art Deco charm and roaring twenties history, Hôtel Martinez hides a cinematic heaven on its seventh floor. More than a suite, these are Penthouse Apartments – two, to be precise – designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, in collaboration with renowned French actress, Isabelle Huppert and the General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, Thierry Frémaux. Naturally, each Penthouse Apartment has their own unique cinematic personality: the Isabelle Huppert Apartment is every Hollywood starlet's dream, with lots of plush cream and gold furniture, quilted leather headboards, tons of mirrors and playful custom-rugs, like the kitschy leopard-print carpet moment in the walk-in wardrobe.

On the other side, the Thierry Frémaux Apartment has a totally different aesthetic. Conceived as a man’s boudoir, it’s filled with cooler tones (think lots of white marble and silver accents) and has a more subdued style – but it still has its own quirks, like black-and-white tiling designed to mimic reel-to-reel film. As well as both apartments boasting vast terraces overlooking the sea, both suites can be connected to span 1,250 square metres, making it one of the largest suites in Europe.

Carlton Cannes – The Katara Suite
An icon on the French Riviera since 1913, the Carlton Cannes needs no introduction. Beyond its famed wooden revolving doors, the Carlton boasts seven Iconic Suites, each with their own quirky touch (like the Kirk Douglas Suite, with its terrace situated right behind the hotel’s iconic signage and Rolex clock) But the star of the suite show goes to the Katara Suite. Situated directly beneath one of the Carlton Cannes signature domes, it spans a grand 352 m², and takes pride of place on the top floor of the hotel. It's the Carlton’s largest – and brightest– suite.
Drenched in sunlight by day, and moonlight by night, thanks to its generous bay windows that open onto two terraces, offering the dreamiest sea views. If you can drag yourself away from the epic views, you can swan from the terrace to your own private sauna, tucked inside the master bathroom. Interiors wise, it’s Belle Époque meets the modern world, with marble floors, white pillars and some surprise pops of bubblegum pink and rose-gold sprinkled throughout. It’s refined, elegant and glamorous, just as a stay at the Carlton should be.
Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes – The Majestic Suite
Overlooking the Palais des Festivals, Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic is right at the heart of the cinematic action. And the ideal place to witness it all? The Majestic Suite. Less a suite and more of a private residence, the Majestic Suite is ultra modern, spans two floors and has everything you need: from a kitchen and formal dining room to a private gym and hair salon. There’s even a dedicated butler at your service. Interiors are chic, glossy and cool with sculptural Art Deco lamps, large sofas in muted silver and hand-stitched leather door handles. The energy shifts a little on the second floor, which is home to a yacht-inspired teak terrace, complete with an 11-metre infinity-edge pool – ideal for sunrise (or sunset) swims.
