Dusty Pink Interiors Make Nour Arida's New Beirut Office Feel like Candy

At first glance, the intentional and tightly curated pink interiors of Lebanese model and philanthropist Nour Arida's new office in Beirut, Lebanon, seem like something generated from ChatGPT prompts, but look closer and you will realise that not only does this place exist IRL, its futuristic minimalism conceals nods to Lebanon and the wider Middle East.

“Those who know me know that I’m not a person who's into colours,” says Arida, whose off-duty wardrobe is mostly black and white with rare pops bright hues, “but when I was designing our Paris home, I realised that all the references I'd saved on Pinterest had a touch of pink.” Fast forward two years and Arida is in the midst of launching a new brand; when it came to developing it's visual identity, pink came to the fore once again. And just like that, Carl Gerges – the AD100 designer who also mastermind the renovation of her French bolthole – was once again roped in to bring her vision to life.

“I wanted an office that didn't feel like one,” says Arida, explaining the brief she set for the designer. “I wanted an environment where a team can gather, create and build something meaningful.” Gerges delivered with a concept that can adapt to the mood and rhythm of each new day.

“This project is a continuation of a story that began in Nour and George’s Paris apartment,” says Gerges, about the sense of intimacy and groundedness that rises above the sparse first impressions. “The office is located on reclaimed land on the outskirts of Beirut’s waterfront – a man-made landscape that didn’t exist before the 1990s. Rather than conceal this artificial origin, we embraced it.” That, and a clean, square site offered limitless flexibility to develop an interior scheme that could not only evolve with the growing brand, but also be a neutral ground for people, ideas and collaborations to come together.

In the middle of the space, a bespoke curved seating system is illuminated by a large circular James Turrell-esque aperture. A stage for conversation and connection, the seating – which feels like a sculpture set in a vast landscape – is actually an abstraction of an Arabic majlis and recalls an al fresco conversation pit designed by Gerges in 2023. Cabinets and desks are arranged along the walls to minimise any visual clutter.

Inspired by the romantic sunsets of Lebanon, the monochrome dusty pink interiors are amplified by natural light that gently filters through the blinds, creating a diffused ambiance. “The colour palette reflects the softness of Beirut’s evening light, bathing the space in a comforting glow,” says Gerges. “It’s both familiar and surreal.”

Arida has a thing for inhabiting spaces that evoke sensations of yummy food. Her Paris apartment features a dining table that looks like dollops of chantilly cream and sofas that look like chunks of nougat. Now, her Beirut office feels like stepping inside a pillowy bubble of chewing gum. The model insists it is all a big conincidence.

“When the Paris house was done, my husband George, Carl and I looked around us and noticed that our Haussmannian mouldings, dinning table and even the chimney all looked liked indulgent desserts,” she says, chalking down this post-rationalisation to the fact that they are all foodies. “It's the Lebanese hospitality in all of us.” Certainly they know how to make a space feel welcoming; and this office, free from noise, heavy materiality, or context, offers them a space to think, dream, and create.
